Women Gaining Ground

In 2021, Bonhishikha partnered with IWRAW and other implementing partners, including CREA and Akili Dada for the five-year multi country project named Women Gaining Ground. Under this programme, we will equip young women and girls, and their collectives, with the necessary tools to become active leaders in driving transformative changes in Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV), and for their political participation in alliance with the women’s movement.

The programme is strengthening the voice, visibility, and organising and influencing power of Women with Disabilities (WWD) and young women to eliminate SGBV as a critical barrier that impact the realisation of their rights. It will also create the required conditions to enable greater political participation.

Strengthening intergenerational and inclusive women’s movement in Bangladesh

Bangladesh Mahila Parishad and Bonhishikha are collaborating on the “Strengthening Intergenerational and Inclusive Women’s Movement in Bangladesh” project, with support from UN Women Bangladesh.

We are on a mission to create a Charter of Demand for gender equality and women’s leadership. Our journey started with a brainstorming session on October 16, 2023, attended by prominent feminist activists and women’s rights leaders from different organisations, including representatives from Nijera Kori, Sangat, Manusher Jonno Foundation, and National Girls Child.

We have since drafted a Charter of Demands that highlights the demands of our consultation partners during this process. The Charter outlines collective demands to achieve gender equality and empowerment of women in Bangladesh, in all their diversity.

SheRAA: Women’s Climate Resilience and Adaptation Alliance

In 2023, Bonhishikha joined SheRAA as an organising member. The Alliance was initiated by The Asia Foundation in Bangladesh, and has 35 member organisations focussing on feminist leadership, policy and advocacy, media, youth leadership, research, development, and donors.

The alliance aims to empower women to play a leading role in climate action and sustainable development. It thus seeks to amplify women’s voices, promote gender-responsive policies, and enhance women’s capacities to adapt to the effects of climate change.
